After receiving my undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University (19th Century European Studies), I lived and worked in Germany for a number of years. I then returned to the States to earn an MFA degree in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. I began teaching photography and film at the University of Cincinnati in 1982, and am currently Professor of Fine Arts there.

I have had individual shows in Germany and the U.S., including Pittsburgh Filmmakers Gallery and A.R.C. Gallery in Chicago. Group shows in the U.S. include the Center for Photography at Woodstock, NY, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Eye Gallery in San Francisco, CA. My work has been included in international group shows in Brazil, Finland, Belgium, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Germany. Images and articles on my work have been published in Adirondack Life magazine (1997), New Mexico Photographer magazine (1994), The World & I magazine (1992), and Valokuva ("Finnish Photography", 1991).

Major grants include an Ohio Arts Council Artists Projects Grant (2000), English-Speaking Union Travel-Study Grant (2000), and two Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Grants (1990, 2002). Honors include awards from Pan Horama '95, an international panoramic photography competition, and a top award in the 1994 National Photography Competition sponsored by New Mexico Photographer magazine. I was a finalist in the Friends of Photography Ruttenberg Fellowship competition in 1990, and won the 1991 Outstanding Teaching Award from the college I teach in at the University of Cincinnati.

My photographs can be found in the permanent collections of the George Eastman House: International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY, The Center for Photography as an Art Form in Bombay, India, the Center for Photography at Woodstock, NY, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Camera Club of NYC, and the Museu da Imagem e do Som in São Paulo, Brazil.
